Owner questions the things everyone asks

How often should I feed my Dogface Puffer?

Juveniles should be fed daily, while adults do well a few times a week. Furry Diary's starting plan suggests small amounts once or twice a day, but always check the food label and ask your vet for the exact amount.31 Furry Diary plan

What does a Dogface Puffer eat, and what should it never eat?

It thrives on hard-shelled foods like clams and mussels, plus frozen meaty marine foods. Avoid feeding anything that isn't part of a marine puffer diet; consult your vet for a safe list.31

How much space does a Dogface Puffer need?

A minimum of 125 US gallons (about 475 litres) is needed, with plenty of open swimming space. This allows your gentle puffer to swim comfortably.31

Keep saltwater at 24 to 26°C (76 to 78°F), pH 8.1 to 8.4, and specific gravity 1.024 to 1.026. Furry Diary's plan suggests daily temperature checks and weekly salinity checks. Lighting needs are not specified, but standard marine lighting is fine.31 Furry Diary plan

How often should I clean a Dogface Puffer's home?

Perform a partial water change of about 10 to 20% every two weeks, and clean the glass weekly. Regular water testing and strong filtration are also important.3 Furry Diary plan

How long does a Dogface Puffer live?

With proper care, a Dogface Puffer can live between 10 and 15 years.3

Can I handle a Dogface Puffer?

It is best not to handle your Dogface Puffer, as it has prickly skin and can inflate when stressed. Enjoy watching its interactive personality from outside the tank.21
