At a glance the quick version
Overall about 12-35 lb (5.4-15.9 kg): toy up to 15 lb, mini 12-20 lb, standard 20-35 lb. Another source gives 30-35 lb for a full-grown adult.
Coat and looks how to spot one
double coat; standard, plush or wooly length
A thick double coat that comes in three lengths: short standard (under an inch), plush (about 1 to 2.5 inches) and long wooly (3 inches or more). Many have Husky-style markings and look like a small wolf.12
Personality what they are like
Spunky, funny and full of character. Pomskies are clever, loyal and very attached to their people, sometimes a little protective of a favourite person. They can be chatty, and their love of food makes training with treats easy.12
Daily activity how busy a day looks
Moderate to high. Most adapt to their owner's pace, from a half-hour daily walk to longer hikes and runs, and they also need puzzles and games to keep the mind busy.12
Grooming and care the hands-on bits
Brush at least two to three times a week, daily during heavy shedding in spring and autumn, when de-shedding tools help. Bathe about monthly, trim nails monthly and look after the teeth.12
Home where they are happiest
Can suit smaller homes if it gets enough daily exercise and mental work; likes human company rather than long hours alone.12
Food basics what goes in the bowl
A complete food fed by body weight, usually two meals a day for adults and three or more for puppies; ask the vet to fine-tune amounts.1
Company who they like around
Needs daily human interaction. Usually good with children and other dogs; introduce cats and small pets slowly and under supervision.12
The story where it all began
The Pomsky craze began online in 2011, when an article asked whether a Pomeranian and Husky mix might be the cutest designer dog, using pictures of other dogs because the cross barely existed yet. Breeders then produced the first planned litters in 2011 and 2012. Because the parents differ so much in size, these pups are bred by artificial insemination.21
