At a glance the quick version
Combined from sources: Wamiz gives 5-7 kg, Dogster 14-18 lb (about 6.4-8.2 kg). Size and looks vary with which parent a dog takes after.
Coat and looks how to spot one
short, smooth to wiry
A compact, sturdy little dog. The short coat can be smooth like a Pug's or a bit wiry like a Jack Russell's, and the face may show Pug-style wrinkles or a longer terrier muzzle.21
Personality what they are like
A fun, affectionate companion that mixes the Jack Russell's zest and curiosity with the Pug's love of people. Personalities range from independent to very cuddly depending on the parent they favour. They are bright, keen to please and loyal to their family.231
Daily activity how busy a day looks
About an hour of exercise a day plus games that make them think. Many enjoy agility.21
Grooming and care the hands-on bits
Easy-care coat: a weekly brush, regular ear checks, nail trims and frequent tooth brushing. Expect some shedding.21
Home where they are happiest
Can live in a flat if well exercised. A securely fenced garden helps, as the terrier side may like to dig and jump.23
Food basics what goes in the bowl
Feed a good-quality diet in measured portions and keep treats to about 10% of daily calories, since regular activity and sensible portions keep them in good shape.21
Company who they like around
A people-loving dog that enjoys attention and family life; described as adapting well to households with children.13
The story where it all began
The Jug blends an English hunting terrier with a Chinese lap dog breed. It is thought to have started appearing in the United States around the 1960s and has grown steadily in popularity with families. Many breeders produce multi-generation crosses rather than only first crosses.123
