Personality what they are like

The story where it all began
The Calupoh began in the 1990s as a heritage project inspired by wolf-dogs described in pre-Columbian texts and depicted in Maya and Aztec art. Early generations came from crossing Mexican wolves with German Shepherds (and, per Spanish sources, Huskies), but today's dogs are bred dog to dog with no new wolf crosses.12

Owner questions the things everyone asks
How often should I feed my Calupoh, and at what times?
Feed your Calupoh at least two meals a day, as adult dogs do best with a morning and evening meal. Puppies need three to four smaller meals daily. Stick to set times so your dog knows when to expect food.3
What should a Calupoh eat, and which foods are dangerous?
Feed a high-quality dog food appropriate for your Calupoh's age and size. Dangerous foods include chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions, garlic, xylitol, and macadamia nuts. Always check with your vet for the best diet plan.4
How often should I bathe a Calupoh?
Furry Diary's starting plan suggests a bath every 56 days, but you can bathe more often if your Calupoh gets very dirty or has skin issues. At least once every three months is a good general rule.5 Furry Diary plan
How often does a Calupoh need brushing?
Brush your Calupoh weekly to keep its short, smooth coat healthy and reduce shedding. Furry Diary's plan recommends brushing every 7 days.5 Furry Diary plan
How do I trim a Calupoh's nails, and how often?
Trim nails every 28 days, or sooner if you hear them clicking on the floor. Cut a little at a time, stopping before the quick to avoid pain. If unsure, ask your vet or a groomer for help.5 Furry Diary plan
How much exercise does a Calupoh need?
Your Calupoh needs daily walks and playtime every day. This large, active breed thrives on regular exercise to stay happy and healthy. Furry Diary plan
How do I look after a Calupoh's teeth and ears?
Brush your Calupoh's teeth two to three times a week with dog-safe toothpaste, and aim for daily brushing if possible. Check ears weekly and dry them gently, especially since floppy ears can trap moisture. Never push anything into the ear canal.5 Furry Diary plan
How long does a Calupoh live?
A Calupoh's lifespan varies, so ask your vet for guidance based on your dog's health and lineage. Regular vet checkups help ensure a long, happy life.
Is a Calupoh good with children and other pets?
The Calupoh is noted for its even, steady temperament, which can be good with children and other pets when properly socialized. Always supervise interactions and introduce new pets gradually.1
Can a Calupoh be left alone?
This depends on your individual dog's temperament and training. Some Calupohs may handle alone time well, while others may need company. Consult a good breeder or trainer for personalized advice.
