The story where it all began

This ancient flock guardian comes from the Polish Tatra highlands, where shepherding peoples settled with their dogs in the 15th century. The first standard was written in 1937 after a show in Zakopane, and after the Second World War breeders rebuilt the breed from about 120 dogs found by 1954.12
