The story where it all began

Likely descended from spaniel-type dogs brought to the Netherlands during the Spanish occupation, the Stabyhoun was an all-round farm dog in Friesland from at least the early 1800s. After crossbreeding threatened it, members of the Kynologenclub Friesland began restoring it in 1938, and it was officially recognised in 1942.412
