The story where it all began
The breed was described as early as 1598 as a hardy hunting companion with a ticked white coat. Very strict colour and tail rules in the 1930s pushed it almost out of existence, and after the Second World War registrations stopped. Michel Comte revived it from 1973, and the breed reached the USA in 1988.123
